Adult Swim's Leading New Show of 2025 Gets a Substantial Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.

Last October, Adult Swim debuted a new season of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, not long after, the channel unveiled a completely new animated series with a distinctly unique feel. Haha, You Clowns was gentle and comforting, in the spirit of a animated take of a serene talk show. In an era often marked by dark humor, this show's wholesomeness resonated deeply and turned it into a surprise hit.

A Two-Season Greenlight

On December 18th, the network revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for a further two seasons. This offers showrunner Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The series focuses on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose defining trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa portraying for all four key characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the viewers of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and spread the word," remarked Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."

Network Praise

In the same announcement praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and strangely uncanny." He shouted out the fans who embraced the show and championed its peculiarly charming style.

"All of you supported this new show, praised it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. There’s something surprisingly comfy about watching this endearing family go about their everyday routines.

In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa expressed his desire to evolve comedy past its prevailing cynical streak. He attributed this trend to various cultural shifts.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we are trapped in,” explained Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we just have to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

What Comes Next

Now, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa may well be part of that comedic shift. If nothing else, the renewal guarantees audiences more opportunities to bask in the gentle humor of the endearing Campbell clan.

The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The entire series is available for streaming on HBO Max.
