Brian Eno Urges Public Help to Get Palestinian Solidarity Lullaby to UK Christmas No 1.
A campaign is aiming to send a traditional song from Palestine to the Christmas number one spot. The project seeks to deliver assistance to people in Gaza while also showcasing Palestinian artistic heritage.
A Possibility for Support and an "Chart Upset"
Composer and producer Brian Eno, who performs on the track, stated that the song titled Lullaby represents a moment to stand with Palestinians this festive season. He noted the potential for an unlikely festive coup.
“It would be incredible if that occurred, yes,” he said. “I wouldn't be completely disheartened if it doesn’t, holiday tracks are a unique phenomenon.”
Defiant Message of Freedom and Dignity
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who performs on the version of a cultural piece called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the piece's resilient spirit.
“It has a deeply meaningful spot for a lot of people,” Barghouti shared. “It’s basically saying that I would rather die in dignity than live a life without freedom. This is the primary message of the song; we want to live a respectful existence that we deserve as Palestinians.”
Recording Origins and Star-Studded Lineup
The single was laid down after a major charity concert held in the autumn. Originally intended to be done as a live recording, the rendition was cut from the show due to time constraints.
The notable list of artists contributing to Lullaby includes a range of acclaimed names from the industry. All participated in the benefit event, which reportedly raised a substantial amount for relief efforts.
Production and Release
Lullaby was brought to life by a trio of talented individuals. The single blends a fusion of the traditional Arabic lyrics with freshly written English words.
The team running the campaign have stated that their objective is to generate maximum funds for a specific fund. These proceeds will be allocated to projects in Palestine through an partnering humanitarian organization.
“There is no a fixed goal,” a figure explained. “We will pursue the maximum achievable. Obviously, the more the merrier. All proceeds are directed out to those in need in Gaza.”
The context in the territory was described as its widespread damage, with a huge proportion of infrastructure said to be levelled or seriously harmed.
“Given that reality, a couple of million doesn’t make an enormous impact. But I think what does make a difference is first of all making this cause better known and proving that another narrative exists.”
The song is scheduled for release at the end of the week. Additionally, a complete film of the charity concert will be made accessible to view on a digital service from the 19th of December.
