Democrats Denounce Trump After He States They Should Face Death Penalty

Democratic officials demonstrated fury after Donald Trump accused a contingent of Democratic legislators of being "turncoats" and stated they should be taken into custody and punished "by death" following their release of a controversial video.

The Recording That Triggered the Controversy

The recorded message, published on Tuesday, includes six Democratic congress members who in the past acted in armed forces or defense positions.

"As we did, you all swore an pledge to safeguard and defend this constitution," the representatives affirmed in the brief video. "At present, the dangers to our constitution aren't just from overseas, but from domestically. Our laws are clear, you can refuse unlawful commands, you can refuse unlawful commands, you have to decline unlawful commands. No one has to execute commands that violate the legal system or our founding principles."

The Former President's Angry Response

The clip reportedly trigger a furious reaction from the ex-president.

On Thursday morning, Trump wrote on Truth Social: "It's called SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these betrayers to our Nation should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."

In a separate post, he stated: "This constitutes really concerning, and Dangerous to our Nation. Their statements cannot be enabled to remain. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"

In a third publication, he added: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, subject to punishment by DEATH!" He also reposted a comment that said: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"

Opposition Leaders Answer

Following Trump's remarks on Thursday, Democratic leadership released a unified declaration censuring the comments.

"Partisan aggression has no place in the United States," they wrote. "Elected officials who participated in the video all served our country with exceptional loyalty and honor. We strongly censure Donald Trump's appalling and dangerous death threats against members of Congress, and urge House Republicans to strongly do the same."

The opposition officials also mentioned that they had been in touch with protective services "to guarantee the safety of these representatives and their families."

"Donald Trump must immediately delete these extreme social media posts and recant his dangerous language before he leads to violence," the announcement continued.

Officials' Strong Reaction

The representatives who were featured in the video also issued a statement.

"We identify as veterans and security experts who care for this country and swore an pledge to safeguard and support the constitution of the United States," they said. "Our pledge continues forever, and we intend to maintain it. No threat, coercion, or incitement will prevent us from that important obligation."

"The significant point is that the president deems it punishable by capital punishment for us to restate the statutes," they continued. "Military personnel should recognize that we have their backs as they carry out their vow to the constitution and duty to obey only legal commands. It is not only the proper thing to do, but also our obligation."

They stated: "Every American must come together and denounce the president's calls for our murder and political violence. This is a period for principled stance."

Additional Political Responses

The Senate Democratic leader also condemned Trump's comments and shared on social media: "We must be absolutely clear: the former president is demanding the capital punishment of elected officials."

He continued: "This constitutes an outright THREAT. All senators, each house member, all citizens – without partisan consideration – should denounce this immediately and without qualification."

The GOP leader supported Trump's assertion that the Democrats had participated in "rebellion", describing the video as "wildly inappropriate", stating: "It is very harmful, you have leading members of the legislature telling military personnel to defy commands, I think that's without precedent in the nation's past."

The GOP official also according to sources stated to journalists that in what he examined of Trump's publications, Trump was "explaining the violation of treason" but that "lawyers have to analyze the wording and establish all that."

White House Statement

During a White House press conference on Thursday afternoon, when questioned by a reporter, "Is the president want to kill elected officials?", the administration spokesperson responded: "Absolutely not."

"It's important to note about what the president is reacting to," the official said. "You have current representatives of the US Congress who worked together to orchestrate a recorded statement to members of the national defense, to serving soldiers urging them to ignore the executive's legal commands."

She stated: "The sanctity of our military depends on the chain of command, and if that chain of command is violated, it can cause casualties, it can lead to disorder, and precisely what these congressional representatives ... are essentially promoting."
