Former Physician Faces Assault Charges Involving Thirty-Eight Individuals in His Care
Prosecutors have announced that a ex- physician stands accused of performing sexual assaults against thirty-eight victims who were patients.
Details of the Grave Charges
Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham is accused of numerous sexual offences – comprising some against children younger than 13 – between 2017 and 2021.
One senior prosecutor commented, “Legal teams have diligently worked to support a thorough and intricate investigation, carefully reviewing the available evidence to establish that there is a strong case to proceed to trial and that it is in the interest of justice.”
The Police Inquiry
The charges come after what police called a “complex investigation” into reported sexual offences at medical facilities: the Royal Stoke university hospital and a facility in Dudley.
Spencer is scheduled to appear at the North Staffordshire justice centre on 20 January.
Breakdown of Offences
Prosecutors outline the forty-five sexual offences comprise:
- 15 counts of assault.
- Seventeen counts of assault by penetration.
- 9 counts of sexual assault of a child under 13.
- Three counts of penetrative assault on a child under thirteen.
- 1 count of attempting to assault by penetration.
