Bolsonaro has been detained after authorities determined he posed a serious risk of fleeing while under house arrest.

The ex-president was found guilty of plotting a military coup in the ninth month and sentenced more than a 27-year term in prison, but he continued under house arrest pending legal challenges.

Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes said the decision to arrest the 70-year-old politician was a preventative measure after fresh information came to light.

This involved attempting to break his electronic bracelet and a invitation to a supporters' gathering that could enable a potential flight.

Legal Document Reveals Escape Concerns

In a document approving the detention, the magistrate said data from the unit overseeing the former president's confinement suggested the former leader's "intention to break the tracking monitor to secure accomplishment in his escape.
