Patrick Bamford Joins the Blades Despite Leading Derogatory Chants About Coach Wilder

The striker is now a member of the Championship side only half a year following starting derogatory taunts directed at their manager, Wilder.

The 32-year-old forward, a free agent since leaving Leeds United, has put pen to paper on a contract with the Championship strugglers until January. Bamford's lengthy career at Elland Road was ended by mutual consent in August.

Among the player's last memorable actions as a Leeds player involved leading offensive chants about Wilder during Leeds' promotion party in April. Currently, the one-cap England player will be playing for Wilder as the Blades’ manager aims to pull his beloved club away from the drop zone.

Past History Between Bamford and the Manager

Both men had previous conflict before Leeds moved up to the top flight the previous campaign while Sheffield United lost the playoff final by Sunderland. The manager called the forward as a "muppet" when the situation was different in 2018-19 and Sheffield United won automatic promotion while Leeds United fell short in the playoffs.

Reconciliation & Moving Forward

All seems has been resolved with United, the Championship’s least productive attack, in desperate need of a boost in attack and Bamford aiming to revive his playing days.

The Wilder chant spread widely in April. An apologetic Patrick along with Leeds boss, Farke, phoned Wilder the following day.

Wilder commented back then: “Spoke with Patrick yesterday and I have no problem whatsoever with it. I’m not sure about the words used from a fellow pro! However I valued and admired him calling me.

“We spent 20 minutes and the same again I talked with Daniel too and had a half-hour chat together and he's a great person, a class act. Back in my playing days we would give it and take it and that’s an integral part of the game at every level, even on Sunday league. I have absolutely no issue. I am cool with it and I said that to Pat.”

Recent Playing Struggles

Bamford made 18 games with Leeds United in the previous campaign however the ex- Nottingham Forest, Chelsea FC and Middlesbrough striker has struggled with injury over the past few seasons.
