Tottenham Boss Frank Calls Vicario Critics 'Not Genuine Fans'
The Cottagers Begin Powerfully to Beat Tottenham and Raise Tension on Frank
Tottenham Hotspur fans who jeered goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario were informed afterwards "those individuals can't be real Tottenham fans" by manager Frank.
Spurs let in a pair of goals in the first six minutes to lose 2-1 to Fulham, marking their tenth Premier League home loss of the year.
However the primary talking point was the visitors' next goal when the keeper gave away the ball well beyond his area.
The goalkeeper ventured out to deal with a long ball and carried the ball near the sideline.
But, rather than booting it into touch, the Italy international turned and attempted to clear, but lost his footing as the ball skimmed off Wilson and was controlled by King.
King laid the ball off to Welsh midfield player Harry Wilson, who bent a strike into the net from the touchline measured at 36.6 yards.
Seconds later when the ball went to Vicario again, a number of Spurs supporters jeered him.
The team were jeered off at half-time, with the club 2-0 down, and again at the final whistle.
One of those jeering episodes really irritated Frank.
"It came to my attention a few of our fans reportedly jeered the situation and booed after, which, in my view is totally unacceptable," the Danish manager stated about the fans' reaction to his shot-stopper.
"Those individuals cannot be true Tottenham supporters that do that. Alright jeering following the game, no problem, but when we are playing, we are backing one another, we are behind one another moving ahead."
Kenny Tete had given the visitors a early lead before Harry Wilson's strike – with Kudus netting for Spurs in an improved second period showing.
Ex- top-flight goalkeeper Joe Hart stated that the second score was "totally avoidable".
"I do understand the supporters' disappointment," Hart continued. "I know the part Vicario is performing. He's a great team player, he is a true figure in the dressing room but in the end you are going to be judged by your actions.
"He was heavily involved in what ended up to be the decisive score."
'It is In the Game, I Can Handle It'
Thomas Frank Stood Up For His Keeper Vicario Following the Match
Italian national team Vicario is in his third campaign with Tottenham.
He said following the match that he had to accept the criticism.
"The second goal was a error of my own, I take accountability for that," he said.
"My aim was to kick the ball far and I simply hit the ball in a poor way. It was an more difficult challenge to overcome."
He stated being booed "is part of the game".
"I'm a big man, what can I say?" he continued. "We cannot be affected by the circumstances in the stands. Supporters have the right to do what they think.
"It is on the team to remain more calm, to concentrate on our own performance. The team is lacking in calmness and poise to overturn results. This match is a bad loss and it's tough to take."
'It Shocked Me No One Returned to the Goal Line'
In spite of Vicario's mistake, it was far from an easy goal for Harry Wilson to score.
Actually it was the second most distant top division goal of the season – following Adams' 43.3 metre strike for the Cherries against Sunderland, which interestingly also came on Saturday.
The goalscorer stated he was "somewhat surprised" that he still had an open net to aim for.
Ten seconds passed between the keeper coming out of his area and the midfielder striking – which was five seconds following the kick.
"I felt like the keeper was away from the area for a long time," he remarked.
"It amazed me none of the back four went back to the line. When none of them covered the goal, my eyes sparked a bit.
"Udogie fell as well, which allowed me a little extra time. Then it was all about attempting to achieve the right connection and get it towards goal. I had a good sense, as soon as it came off my foot, that it was on the right line."
'During in a Poor Run, All Seems to Go Against You'
Jeering While We Are Still Playing Is Totally Unacceptable - the Manager
While Vicario's mistake led coverage, this was an all-round bad performance for Spurs to continue their home woes.
The match was their tenth home loss of the year in the Premier League, a shared club statistic along with 1994 and two thousand and three.
The side still have home games against Frank's old side Brentford and title holders Liverpool to play before the close of the year.
Just a single of those wins have occurred after Frank replaced Ange Postecoglou in the summer.
"If you are behind 2-0 following the opening, there is a huge challenge to overcome," stated the boss.
"During in a bad spell, all aspects appears to work against you as well – the first was a redirected attempt, the next is a mistake from Vic.
"The outcome puts us in a place where we have lost another game. Each fixture has a unique story, this game we lost in the first six minutes.
"We simply need to continue striving. The second half was much better and with luck something we can utilize to develop."
Tottenham have lost 4 consecutive home London derbies for the first time in the Premier League.
And they are averaging 9.5 shots and 3.2 efforts on goal per match in the Premier League – their lowest averages on file in a single season (since at least 2003-04).
Former Cottagers midfielder Murphy commented that Frank has to ride the storm.
"He's got accept the stick," the pundit remarked. "He has taken a prestigious job at a huge football club with massive anticipation. There is scrutiny and responsibility that comes with that.
"The performances at home have been disappointing and they have to get better {quickly|
