Vince Gilligan Reveals He Has a Plan for How The Apple TV+ Show Will Conclude... At the Moment.

Vince Gilligan could not have predicted that Pluribus would turn into a breakout success. “The viewers have been incredible,” he states. “I was surprised by the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”

Now that Season 1 of the hit program reaching its finale—and a second season already in development—Gilligan and his team reflected on the audience reaction and whether it will influence the future direction of Pluribus.

On the Overwhelming Audience Reaction

Anyone might to get sidetracked by the widespread acclaim and audience predictions surrounding Pluribus. The creator is striving to ignore the noise.

“It's like being an endless supply of something incredibly sweet and being laughing uncontrollably,” he explains. “It's the greatest thing, but I hear about it from others, and that's intentional. Never in my life Googled myself, nor do I ever plan to. It's quite the opposite. It's a deep trap I know I would get lost in and then I'd be never leaving the house from Home Depot and I'd never leave my living room.”

Regardless of trying to stay away, there’s no way to avoid the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“It is not our goal to tailor anything,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not impacted by audience chatter.”

“We prefer to keep our heads down and working,” he chimes in.

The Big Question: Has the showrunner See the Finale of Pluribus?

Considering Gilligan and his team are not listening by audience theories, does that mean they have already decided how Pluribus will finally conclude? In short yes… sort of.

“We've developed some potential directions about where the show might end up,” Gilligan reveals. “yet we stand ready to discard a decent plan for a superior concept. That philosophy has guided us in good stead on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we find a more perfect path and I suspect we'll be doing that.”

Then again, if all else fails, director and writer Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to serve as a last resort.

“I constantly suggest that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and that's where they've been all along,” Smith quips, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”

Then again, why mess with the iconic TV endings?

“I'd love for Carol to awaken beside Bob Newhart,” Gilligan says with a smile.

Pluribus is streaming now on Apple TV+.
